Money is tight for everyone today, it seems. Some people are finding that their full-time jobs aren’t enough to pay bills and stay out of debt. College and high school students might have a hard time finding work that is flexible enough to work around their school schedules, and many parents want to be home with their children but can’t quite make it happen on one income.

While there is no way to get rich quick, there are plenty of options to bring in a few extra dollars working from home or working a few hours here and there. Here are a few simple ways to supplement your income:

Promotional Modeling

Don’t let the word “modeling” scare you — you don’t have to look like a Barbie doll to be a promotional model or “brand ambassador.” Promotional models are usually hired for short-term gigs (from a few hours to a few days) to promote a product or service in a public place. This maybe your local mall or supermarket, or at a major event (such as local fairgrounds). You may be asked to hand out samples or literature, to demonstrate a product, or to perform some kind of simple service (such as serving food at a one-day event). These gigs can pay anywhere from 10 to 50 dollars an hour (more in big cities!). Try searching “Promotional Modeling +(your city or region),” or check the “events” or “talent” sections of your local craigslist.

Network Marketing

Yes, there are a ton of illegal “pyramid schemes” out there that call themselves “network marketing” or “multilevel marketing” companies, but those terms are not actually interchangeable. Some well-known, successful (and perfectly legal) companies operate under the network marketing model, including Mary Kay, Avon, Amway Global, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, and many more. If you are interested in starting a small business through one of these companies, check the website for a representative in your area who can sponsor you, or just start asking around!

eBay Reselling

You can start out by checking your own house to see what you can sell (on top of the money, this is a great way to de-clutter your home!). Recent college textbooks, shoes, clothes that you just don’t wear often enough and gadgets that you haven’t used in a while all work great. Once you’ve finished going through your own stuff, try hitting up garage sales or thrift shops for affordable items that you can resell on eBay for a slightly higher price.

Mystery Shopping

Do some research and find out what mystery shopping companies are hiring in your area. Some people actually make a living mystery shopping, but, as a starter, you can expect to make around 5-20 dollars per shop. Plus, you’ll usually get a free item from each business you are assigned!

Yes, this craze that has been floating around the internet is true! Don’t be afraid to sign up under a friend and check it out. It’s free and no personal information is required, so there’s nothing to lose!

Become a TikTok Star

If you have good acting skills and unique ideas then you can quickly become TikTok famous. It is a great platform to kick start your acting career as direct access to television or film is very difficult. All you need to do is to create unique content and get a few free TikTok followers to get started. Soon you will become famous which may ultimately result in promotional contracts and even acting career.

Create a YouTube Channel

Do you have a skill that you can demonstrate in a ten-minute video? Can you come up with something funny and entertaining? Some people actually make a full-time living creating YouTube videos — but the keyword there is “creating!” You will need to use a material that is entirely your own! But some of the “viral” videos from YouTube are examples of original videos that can bring in some cash!
